On Friday we learnt how to do Beat mixing. Beat mixing is when you get two songs and mix them together, you have to change the tempo of the songs so that they run at the same time and so that the songs are in tune with eachover. Its best if the two songs already have the same kind of tempo, if a song is 120 and one is 155 you have to move the tempo qiute and keep on starting the song again and again to get it just right.
Compared to the cross fading that we did last week, Beat mixing is definatly much more difficult. Even after two hours of trying to mix two songs myself i still found it very hard at the end, and i still haven't quite got the grasp of it. Its not so much that i don't know what I'm doing because i do, its just actually being able to do it that's the problem. Nigel makes it look so easy, but he told us that it takes years and years to perfect beat mixing.
I don't know how I'm going to be able to do the assessment in two weeks because I need a lot more practice. Hopefully ill do weel though.

Dj workshop with Nigel
This Friday lesson 4 and 5 we had a Dj workshop with a man called Nigel. Throught the two hours that we had we had learnt the basic skills of being a Dj, and we learnt the different parts of the equipment we has using like:
It allows you to mix sounds from different audio sources together.
The mixer includes:
-2 Channels
- Cross Fader
-Phono/line switches- VU meters
- Master volume fader
-1/4 inch headphone socket
- 2 Earth points etc.
- Headphones
You have to make sure that the Headpohones you buy are good enough to handle high volumes, and a long lead.
-This is a slip mat.
Slip mats are very important when it comes to mixing records as they allow the record to move independently on the Turntable platter. Without the slip mat preparing the record would be very hard and the needle would jump too much.
This is what you need to be able to play the music on the Vinyls.
-This is how you connect all of the equipment.
After we had learnt about the different parts, and had learnt what we should do, we got started.
We picked two songs and we learnt how to go from one songs and fade it to the other song while its still playing and make it sound really good. I had some trouble in the begining getting used to it but after a while i got better and better. At the end of the lesson we got to take it in turns and Dj Nigel said i did it perfectly in time. I cant wait for my next lesson, because i really enjoy DJing.

Cards & Boxes!
Postcard Boxes
This Friday i was given a new task, and that was to make a postcard box so that i could choose eight photos out of all of the ones I've done throughout year 10 and put them into the box. The hole point of this was to make everything so that it was like i was selling it in real life.
I had to make something which had to go at the bottom of my postcard box which said what the postcards inside the box represent and i put small photos of the postcards inside the box so the people who was reading the back knew what was inside.
Inside of the box i had to make a postcard to put on top of my photos which was all about me and i put a picture of myself on there too.
We had to make the boxes ourselves from scratch but we had someone there to help us make it, we used paper first to practice on and then we did the real thing on cardboard paper. I was the fastest in the class at making mine and i think mines was the neatest as well. i chose the colours green and yellow as my two colours of the box because i think those two represented nature the best.
When we had chosen our final eight pictures we gave them to the technician so he could print them out on nice paper. when i had to cut them i had to make sure every single one was the same size which i found really hard at first because i couldn't get it to be even.
when i had made my box and finished cutting my cards, i thought it would be nice to put some tissue paper inside of it to give it some effect for when someone opens the box.
We also had to do some box research on different types of boxes, and what were the disadvantages or advantages of them. e.g selling, look, weight and price.
We all had to write a questionairre pretending we was giving these out to people. It had questions like, would you buy this box? do you like the theme? do you like the colour scheme etc.

This Friday we was given a new task and that was to go to the upper school Brooke and take really nice pictures of the outside and all around the school. We got given the SLR's but some people had to share so i shared with Jessica. i took different pictures of the school from different angles, i took a picture of the cross on the front on the building from the front and from the side, i took a picture of the cafeteria, the pond, the playground, i also took some pictures of the chapel because Charles Edward Brooke is a religious school and so its a very important part of the school.
After two hours of taking photos, me and my peers for the rest of the day had to transfer all of our pictures to our computer and pick 5 or 6 photos and edit them on picnik. After i picked my favorite pictures and edited them i transfered them to The technicians memory stick so he could put it on the shared area. Later on that day Mr.weir came into our class and explained that the reason why we all took photos anyways was because the heads were going to pick a bunch of photos to put them on the front o our school planners next year, which i thought was very exiting and i cant wait to see which ones get chosen.

On Friday we spent the hole day doing leaflets again, and so i decided that i was ready to start on my actual leaflet. We used Microsoft Publisher as the method we was going to use to create our leaflet, and so i began to write everything in my own words.

Easter photos!

This Friday we was told that we was going out to take some pictures for easter. Not everyone was on time it was only me, Shyanne and Shanell, Aaliyah was a bit late. Naomi and Jessica wasn't present that day. We went to mikes field park just opposite our school. Miss.Williams issued me and my peers an SLR camera each which i was really happy about because the last time we went out to take photos for winter and autumn, we only got normal cameras which were also good but not as good as SLR cameras. We was told that we needed to take pictures of things like flowers that could represent easter so we went around the hole park to find some nice looking flowers. The first picture i took was of some daffodil's and i focused one of the daffodil's and there was another one in the background but it was blurry, thats the effect i wanted, turns out my daffodil picture got chosen to be the schools easter card, i was really happy about that. i also took some pictures of different flowers, and on some of my pictures i used the tripod so the photos focus was really good. At first i thought it was a bit hard to get into it, but after a while i really got into it and learnt how to take pictures so it had a great effect. these were my five favorite photos which i entered for the easter card competition:

There was one point where when we got back from taking the photos when we was uploading them that somehow i lost all of my pictures they just disappeared. i so gutted and i thought i would have to go out and take them all again but i didn't have to, after a couple of hours Sir thankfully found a website where you can re upload picture that were lost or deleted off the memory card on the SLR camera. It took a while but finally he was able to get all the picture back and i was able to get back to editing my photos. Apart from almost loosing all my pictures it was a really good day.
