On Friday we learnt how to do Beat mixing. Beat mixing is when you get two songs and mix them together, you have to change the tempo of the songs so that they run at the same time and so that the songs are in tune with eachover. Its best if the two songs already have the same kind of tempo, if a song is 120 and one is 155 you have to move the tempo qiute and keep on starting the song again and again to get it just right.
Compared to the cross fading that we did last week, Beat mixing is definatly much more difficult. Even after two hours of trying to mix two songs myself i still found it very hard at the end, and i still haven't quite got the grasp of it. Its not so much that i don't know what I'm doing because i do, its just actually being able to do it that's the problem. Nigel makes it look so easy, but he told us that it takes years and years to perfect beat mixing.
I don't know how I'm going to be able to do the assessment in two weeks because I need a lot more practice. Hopefully ill do weel though.

Dj workshop with Nigel
This Friday lesson 4 and 5 we had a Dj workshop with a man called Nigel. Throught the two hours that we had we had learnt the basic skills of being a Dj, and we learnt the different parts of the equipment we has using like:
It allows you to mix sounds from different audio sources together.
The mixer includes:
-2 Channels
- Cross Fader
-Phono/line switches- VU meters
- Master volume fader
-1/4 inch headphone socket
- 2 Earth points etc.
You have to make sure that the Headpohones you buy are good enough to handle high volumes, and a long lead.
-This is a slip mat.
Slip mats are very important when it comes to mixing records as they allow the record to move independently on the Turntable platter. Without the slip mat preparing the record would be very hard and the needle would jump too much.
- This is a Cartridges/Needles:This is what you need to be able to play the music on the Vinyls.
-This is how you connect all of the equipment.
After we had learnt about the different parts, and had learnt what we should do, we got started.
We picked two songs and we learnt how to go from one songs and fade it to the other song while its still playing and make it sound really good. I had some trouble in the begining getting used to it but after a while i got better and better. At the end of the lesson we got to take it in turns and Dj Nigel said i did it perfectly in time. I cant wait for my next lesson, because i really enjoy DJing.

Cards & Boxes!
Postcard Boxes
This Friday i was given a new task, and that was to make a postcard box so that i could choose eight photos out of all of the ones I've done throughout year 10 and put them into the box. The hole point of this was to make everything so that it was like i was selling it in real life.
I had to make something which had to go at the bottom of my postcard box which said what the postcards inside the box represent and i put small photos of the postcards inside the box so the people who was reading the back knew what was inside.
Inside of the box i had to make a postcard to put on top of my photos which was all about me and i put a picture of myself on there too.
We had to make the boxes ourselves from scratch but we had someone there to help us make it, we used paper first to practice on and then we did the real thing on cardboard paper. I was the fastest in the class at making mine and i think mines was the neatest as well. i chose the colours green and yellow as my two colours of the box because i think those two represented nature the best.
When we had chosen our final eight pictures we gave them to the technician so he could print them out on nice paper. when i had to cut them i had to make sure every single one was the same size which i found really hard at first because i couldn't get it to be even.
when i had made my box and finished cutting my cards, i thought it would be nice to put some tissue paper inside of it to give it some effect for when someone opens the box.
We also had to do some box research on different types of boxes, and what were the disadvantages or advantages of them. e.g selling, look, weight and price.
We all had to write a questionairre pretending we was giving these out to people. It had questions like, would you buy this box? do you like the theme? do you like the colour scheme etc.

This Friday we was given a new task and that was to go to the upper school Brooke and take really nice pictures of the outside and all around the school. We got given the SLR's but some people had to share so i shared with Jessica. i took different pictures of the school from different angles, i took a picture of the cross on the front on the building from the front and from the side, i took a picture of the cafeteria, the pond, the playground, i also took some pictures of the chapel because Charles Edward Brooke is a religious school and so its a very important part of the school.
After two hours of taking photos, me and my peers for the rest of the day had to transfer all of our pictures to our computer and pick 5 or 6 photos and edit them on picnik. After i picked my favorite pictures and edited them i transfered them to The technicians memory stick so he could put it on the shared area. Later on that day Mr.weir came into our class and explained that the reason why we all took photos anyways was because the heads were going to pick a bunch of photos to put them on the front o our school planners next year, which i thought was very exiting and i cant wait to see which ones get chosen.

Easter photos!

This Friday we was told that we was going out to take some pictures for easter. Not everyone was on time it was only me, Shyanne and Shanell, Aaliyah was a bit late. Naomi and Jessica wasn't present that day. We went to mikes field park just opposite our school. Miss.Williams issued me and my peers an SLR camera each which i was really happy about because the last time we went out to take photos for winter and autumn, we only got normal cameras which were also good but not as good as SLR cameras. We was told that we needed to take pictures of things like flowers that could represent easter so we went around the hole park to find some nice looking flowers. The first picture i took was of some daffodil's and i focused one of the daffodil's and there was another one in the background but it was blurry, thats the effect i wanted, turns out my daffodil picture got chosen to be the schools easter card, i was really happy about that. i also took some pictures of different flowers, and on some of my pictures i used the tripod so the photos focus was really good. At first i thought it was a bit hard to get into it, but after a while i really got into it and learnt how to take pictures so it had a great effect. these were my five favorite photos which i entered for the easter card competition:

There was one point where when we got back from taking the photos when we was uploading them that somehow i lost all of my pictures they just disappeared. i so gutted and i thought i would have to go out and take them all again but i didn't have to, after a couple of hours Sir thankfully found a website where you can re upload picture that were lost or deleted off the memory card on the SLR camera. It took a while but finally he was able to get all the picture back and i was able to get back to editing my photos. Apart from almost loosing all my pictures it was a really good day.

Dance research on friday!

This Friday me and my peers were told that for dance we had to basically create a leaflet that could inform and introduce people to different dance opportunities in Lambeth. I think the whole point of us having to do it just in the area of Lambeth was so it was difficult for us and not easy, because there are only a few places in Lambeth with Dance opportunities and you have to search thoroughly to find them. I found it very difficult personally because as i said there wasn't many places to look on the Internet and you have to look thoroughly just to find one. After a while though i did find it a little bit easier because, i found different links that lead me to good websites, e.g. Siobhan studios which introduced opportunities for disabled people, One of the royal ballet schools, FCD's summer school which is for disabled people, Miss.Shrubb let me pick the pineapple studios to put on my list because she said that it is a great opportunity for people want to do dance as it includes things like, street dance, jazz, contemporary, yoga tap etc.
I had nine different dance locations which included opportunities for people who want to do it as a career e.g. dance therapist, dance teacher things like that. There were a couple of places i found where disabled people had the chance to dance. And there were just places where you could just go there do dance and have fun.
I don't feel that i could have done any better because i put a lot of effort into it.

First week back on friday!

The first Friday back, we didn't do anything that had to do with our diploma class, for the whole day we were helping out Miss.Williams with the publicity for the year 11's diploma festival. All we did that day was laminate posters to stick up all around the school, and fold leaflets for the day of the festival. When all the posters were laminated i offered to take them and stick them all around the school there was around 30 of them, and i went out by myself to stick them up. Apparently our trailer for our horror film was played during the years 11's festival.

Last day of filming!

It was the last day of filming, and me Aaliyah and Jessica was the only people that were meant to be filming because everyone else had finished filming their parts. Me and Aaliyah came into school wearing our costumes, unfortunatley Jessica didnt know she was meant to be filming with us and so she did not come wearing the right costume. With the help of one of our teachers, he was able to crop parts of Jessica out so that you could not see her incorrect costume.
We filmed quite a few scenes, e.g. me and Aaliyah did some more running scenes across the hallways and corridors and down some stairs. We did the scene where Tammy(me) finds courtney(Aaliyah) and Kourtney(Jessica) and explains how Dawn(Shanel) died and this is also the scene where Tammy admits how she believes Courtney about the story she told everyone. Another scene that we did was when Tammy and Courtney had to set up the camera outside the cupboard and then hide. After we had finished filming our short productin we all went off to edit it.
During the past few weeks i have learnt quite a lot about filming and how to be an actor and how things work, in the begining i found it very difficult to gasp onto the ways of acting, bu the more and more that i was filming i felt for comfortable infront of the camera and more confident. Actually being behind the scenes and working the camera was really fascinating, i learnt how to work the camera properley, e.g. working the zoom, working the Tripod, and using the camera in such a way that i create a spectacular image. Throughout the hole term of filming though i have found that keeping a straight face on camera is really hard and there have been times where i just couldnt help myself and would just break out laughing but i have learnt to control that.
Overall i have really enjoyed the experience.

Our second day filming !

On Friday it was our second day of filming, i had to wear the exact same thing as last Friday so the night before i checked my list of the things i was wearing last time to make sure i had the things all ready. Me, Aaliyah, Naomi and Shanell i think were the only ones prepared because Jessica wasn't even wearing the same trousers as last time, and Shyanne didn't bring anything so she had to borrow clothes off of other people, we also had an actor in which plays the older version of Shyanne and which is the teacher/killer.
Like i mentioned last week, me and my peers had got interrupted while half way through filming the scene with Tammy(me), and Dawn(Shanell) in the staff room. On Friday though because we had booked all the rooms we was going to be using so we was allowed to use the place which we was using as our staff room last time. Most of the attention was on me while filming this time in this scene as Dawn(Shanell) was already meant to be dead. It was easy in some ways, although hard in some other ways, this is because sometimes i would have to say my lines and move somewhere, and when they cut i have to do it all over again and have to remember it, i got the hang of it after a while though, and i really enjoyed it. After round two hours finishing that scene we moved to our next scene which was meant to be the first scene of the hole short film. This scene took around two hours and a half to do as it is quite an important part of the film, we went over the scene hundreds of times, so that the person behind the camera which was Naomi could take different shots each time. At one point everyone got a close up onto their face which i found quite funny as surprisingly everyone manged to keep a straight face even me. I did find this scene quite hard remembrance wise, because the scene was so long and there was just so much to remember, but i remembered everything in the end.
When we was finally finished with that scene, we moved on to the cupboard, where we firstly did the bit where Dawn and Tammy jumped out on Courtney(Aaliyah) and Kimberley(Jessica) this scene was only a few seconds. The second Scene in the cupboard that we did, was where Naomi and Shyanne came into it and did the flashback, i was the camera person since Naomi was acting. i was amazed when i was filming this scene, because i didn't realize how much of a great actor Naomi was she played the part of Cynthia Waters perfectly, and i also think Shyanne played her part as the young teacher well as well. The next scene we did was near the cupboard also where Courtney was hiding in the cupboard and Tammy came to check on her, and this scene was the part where my character Tammy dies she is smothered to death and dragged away. The last scene of the day that we did was where the evil teacher let Courtney out of the cupboard and Courtney doesn't suspect a thing that its the teacher, until she watched the tape on the camera that she planted in front of the cupboard, and all you see is the teacher behind her and thats where the films meant to end. We haven't completely finished filming as we still need to finish off some, not quite sure yet. The last thing of the whole day that me, Naomi and Shyanne did was sing over the tannoy singing ring a ring a roses. which will be used somewhere during the short film. Next Friday we will need to hours more to completely finish everything.

Our first day of filming (finally!)

On Friday we had finally got around to filming our short film. Many people had come unprepared, but i was all ready and in costume ready to play my part.
i was in the first ever scene that we filmed, it was the scene that Tammy (me) and Dawn (Shanell) go into the staff room and mess around and at some point i find Dawn dead on the floor. We filmed about three quarters of the scene which took us about 2 hours almost because of all the takes we did from different angles, and all the different parts of the scene. The reason why we didn't get to film all of it was because we was rudely interrupted by a member of staff, and so we couldn't film the rest of our scene for the rest of the day. Because of the misunderstanding we went other places where we were meant to film and where we actually could film without interrupting anyone else. Next Tammy, Courtney (Aaliyah) and Kimberley (Jessica) went to all the hallways and our school gym and our hall where we did running scenes, this took up to 2 hours as well because we needed to do different angles and make sure we did it perfectly. It was our last hour until we finished school, and this time we just did the scene of Tammy and Courtney running down some stairs to an exit where it was locked and we started freaking out, but we got even more freaked out when we found that Kimberley wasn't behind us anymore and we had to go and find her. Working on location!

On friday me and my diploma class went on a trip to two different film sets where Don as filming his short 2 minute pragramme made for the iphone.
I found that this was a great experience as we got to meet real actors, directors, photographers, runners, boom operators, camera men, hair and make-up stylists, and A locations Manager. Everyone got split up, and they got to choose what person on set they would like to be with throughout the time we was there. Aaliyah was wth the assistant Director, Shanell was witht eh photographer, Shyanne was with the Camera man, Jessica was with the Make-up artist, Naomi was with Don(the Director) and i was with the Locations manager.
At first i thought staying with Deborah(the locations manager) would be quite boring, but as the day commensed i found that everyone else wasnt having half the amount of funj i was having with my partner. My first job was to go to starbucks for a man who owned one of the shops that the programme was being filmed, i still remember i got him a Latte with whole milk. After i fetched him his Latte, me and Deborah made our way to our next film scene. We had lond convosations about how she had to pick out all by herself the locations that the scenes were being shot, and once she had found a place to shoot a scene she would comfirm it with Don. She also has to make sure everyone eats and has the right equipment.
At one point also me and Deborah went out and found a cafe where we had to order 30 sandwiches for everyone. the options were limited so people could only have white bread, either cheese, ham, or tuna, and it had no butter in it. me and my peers left before Deborah went to go and pick up the sandwiches later on.
I learnt a lot on that day. I learnt about how a real film scene has to be set out to make it look realistic, what props they have to use, how many different angles they have to take in just 'one' scene, i also learnt that theres many more people behind the scenes that are important so that everything goes to plan. There are pictures of our day out on location but unfortunately i don't have them right now so I'm going to post them in my next blog.

After i fetched him his Latte, me and Deborah made our way to our next film scene. We had lond convosations about how she had to pick out all by herself the locations that the scenes were being shot, and once she had found a place to shoot a scene she would comfirm it with Don. She also has to make sure everyone eats and has the right equipment.
At one point also me and Deborah went out and found a cafe where we had to order 30 sandwiches for everyone. the options were limited so people could only have white bread, either cheese, ham, or tuna, and it had no butter in it. me and my peers left before Deborah went to go and pick up the sandwiches later on.
I learnt a lot on that day. I learnt about how a real film scene has to be set out to make it look realistic, what props they have to use, how many different angles they have to take in just 'one' scene, i also learnt that theres many more people behind the scenes that are important so that everything goes to plan. There are pictures of our day out on location but unfortunately i don't have them right now so I'm going to post them in my next blog.

Horror film!

On friday everyone was in this time, last week jessica and aaliyah wasnt present, but they were this Friday. Don was with us again, though Phil wasnt there this time, at the start of the lesson we went over how our horror film was meant to go, and we also started to play around with the camera a little. Mr.Le Marechal tought us different movements with the cameras we used. The first movement i learnt was 'Panning' this movement is when you are standing still and you want to move your camera up, down, left or right.
This Cam-stabiliser is best for panning and tracking.

Tracking is when you move around the scene with the camera while filming and you are still able to keep to camera stable. Don said to us the easiest way for us to remember is if you think of train tracks, because we are walking like we are on a track because you can go straight forward, sidewards, and diagonally.
During our 5 hour lesson, we also learnt how to use a tripod (legs), we had to learn how to put it up properly and make sure that it was balanced and the way we found out how to do that was at the side of the tripod there was a little green thing with a bubble in it and if the bubble was in the middle of the the green circle then we knew it was evened out. We learnt how to put the camera onto a tripod also, and we had a competition to see who could put the tripod up and get the camera it the quickest and safest, me and Shanell worked together and we beat Naomi and Jessica by far.
Mr.Le Mareshal also taught us how to use the Directional video condenser microphone, and how to place it onto the camera. He explained to me and my fellow peers that this particular microphone can only sense sound from where the microphone is directly pointing at. Also when you have the microphone plugged in you have to plug in the earphones, so that you can make sure at all times when the film is commencing that the sounds are actually getting picked up.

This all got changed around as Shanell didn't want to have to the main part anymore, and Aaliyah and Jessica didn't want to have boring parts... I said I'd be Courtney and she could have my part, and she agreed, then Aaliyah wanted to also play the role of Courtney, so Don decided with Mrs.Williams that we should have tryouts so we did. We both had to pretend that we was locked in a cupboard and make it believable, I didn't get the part though. Even though i didn't get the part of Courtney, i had a streak of luck as Naomi didn't want to be the Baddest Bully anymore, so she said i could have her part. Basically in the end everyone changed their role apart from Shyanne as she still wanted to be the younger teacher, and now this is the up to date Cast list:
